In Hellboy: The Crooked Man, Hellboy and a rookie agent get stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. They discover a small town haunted by witches, led by the terrifying Crooked Man. The trailer, revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, offers fans a glimpse of what’s to come. For instance, there’s an eerie scene with a raccoon that possesses people by crawling into their mouths.

The Hellboy franchise began with a 2004 film directed by Guillermo del Toro. It introduced Hellboy, a demon summoned during World War II, who defends against supernatural forces. The 2008 sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, expanded the universe with mythical creatures. In 2019, the franchise was rebooted, with David Harbour taking over the role of Hellboy.

Mignola, the creator, has expressed his excitement for this new film. He believes Hellboy: The Crooked Man is the most faithful adaptation of his original vision. “All my favorite scenes from The Crooked Man are in there,” Mignola said. He considers this movie one of his favorites, with many moments he never imagined seeing onscreen.

Fans of Hellboy can expect a dark and faithful adaptation when the movie hits cinemas this September.
