As Mandela Day 2024 approaches, Liberty Promenade is taking a bold and inventive approach to ensure that aid reaches those who need it the most. The mall, located in Mitchell’s Plain, is championing not just one but eight local charities, each doing vital work in its surrounding community.
Introducing the Promenade Post with Purpose campaign—a month-long initiative designed to raise awareness of the extraordinary efforts undertaken by various organizations that contribute significantly to the local communities around the mall.
Supporting these organizations is straightforward and impactful: Shoppers are encouraged to cast their votes by dropping their till slips, valued at R100 or more, into the box designated for their chosen charity at the Post with Purpose installation in the Food District from June 12 to July 15. The charity that accumulates the highest total value of till slips will receive a R30,000 donation from the mall. Additionally, two fortunate shoppers who participate will each win a R1,000 Liberty Promenade gift card.
Responding to a call to action that attracted hundreds of applications, eight remarkable organizations were selected:
- Bhabhisana Baby Project: Advocates for early intervention and provides interdisciplinary therapy to babies within the critical first 1,000 days of their lives.
- Empilweni Place of Healing: Committed to enhancing the well-being of children, adolescents, and families in underprivileged communities through mental health support.
- Jap Aesthetics Community Outreach: Diligently works to feed disadvantaged communities and offers support for youth development, road safety education, and tailored assistance to those in need.
- National Rescue for Poverty and Drugs (NRPD): Addresses poverty and substance abuse in underserved communities, with a particular focus on Mitchells Plain.
- Read to Rise: Dedicated to promoting youth literacy and fostering a love for reading among young children by providing them with their very first book.
- The Shumeez Scott Foundation: Focuses on empowering individuals with Down Syndrome and other special needs.
- Ubuntu Dance and Theatre Arts: A beacon of creativity and empowerment, offering accessible arts education while nurturing creativity and fostering cultural understanding.
- Winners Park Football Club: Uplifts youth by keeping them engaged in positive activities, encouraging team building and participation.
By participating, each featured charity will also gain valuable exposure across the mall’s digital platforms and within the branded installation in the mall’s Food District. This exposure will allow the hundreds of thousands of shoppers who pass through its corridors each month to learn more about these organizations and discover ways to support their tireless efforts.
