I AM NOCY-JAY


Hailing from Ladysmith in Kwa-Zulu Natal 2018 Idols contestant born Nosipho “Nocy-Jay” Silinda 25 th August 2000. who first won the hearts of millions on the idols stage has surely ran with the popularity gained from the internationally acclaimed competition. Late last year Nocy-Jay released her debut single late 2019 and has been receiving massive love throughout festive season with live performance across South Africa. Her debut single is currently charting on SA music top 100 charts at #18 and has enjoyed number #1 status on stations such as Gagasi FM and other large radio stations.


Dannywired had a sit-down with Nosipho and this is what she had to say.

What was the thought process of the song?
Well my current single Themba Lam was inspired by young love from my supporters and fans basically the song was and is meant to be consumed by everyone.

From gained popularity from Idols SA, what gave you the confidence to sign with Gallo when you could have signed with any other major label?
Signing with Gallo came with the packaged contract so that option was open to me and i took it but from the popularity gained it opened me to a lot of brands, record labels and other organisations.

What has been the biggest challenge with juggling school and work?
Its been too busy! I had to cut off school and focus on the work even now i should be in school but i’m currently doing media runs so when i get back to school i will have a lot of work to catch up on.

What has been your biggest wake-up call after leaving idols?
Shuuu, my biggest lessons and wake-up call i have learned from idols is that its not all glitz and glamour. Once you leave the competition competition i needed to work my ass off and not slow down on the momentum.

If they would to have an all stars idols top 10 competition would you re-enter?
No, “chuckles” i dont think so. Now that i have a taste if the industry i just need to keep going from where i am and finish what i have started.


For aspiring artists, what would you advice be?

You really need to be careful when you sign you contracts, take time to ready it back to from and if there are legal terms you don’t understand – make sure you seek legal advice. For me prayer has done so much for and i put the holy spirit first in the major decisions i make. You will also need a good support structure from your family and friends because they are the people who can support you.

Which artists would you like to work with?
I would like to work with great artists like Nasty C, Cici, Aubrey Qwana and Sjava amongst a list of artists that i would like to be associated with.

New single?
Currently in studio working on my latest single which will carryout the same look and feel to my first single. The new single is titled DONT KILL MY VIBE and it is sung in English , Zulu and Portuguese. Basically the song say ” i got you… but don’t kill vibe”.
